हीना सूर्येन्दुनक्षत्रैद्यौरिवा भाति भारती । “इसके प्रधान-प्रधान योद्धा नष्ट हो गये। घोड़े

hīnā sūryendunakṣatrair dyaur ivā bhāti bhāratī |

Wika ni Sañjaya: Ang langit na pinagkaitan ng araw, buwan, at mga bituin ay nawawalan ng ningning; gayon din ngayon ang hukbong Kaurava—napuksa ang mga pangunahing mandirigma, at napatay ang mga kabayo, mga karwaheng pandigma, at mga elepante—hinubaran ng dangal at liwanag dahil sa pagkawasak na moral at materyal na iniiwan ng walang-humpay na digmaan.
