Krishna’s Counsel, Arjuna’s Apology, and Authorization for Karṇa’s Slaying
राजा दुर्योधनकी आज्ञा पाकर आपके पुत्र अत्यन्त कुपित हो भीमसेनको मार डालनेकी इच्छासे उनके सामने गये, मानो पतंग आगके समीप जा पहुँचे हों ।।
rājā duryodhanasyājñāṃ prāpya tava putrā atyantaṃ kupitā bhīmasenaṃ mārayituṃ kāmayamānāḥ tasya sammukhaṃ jagmuḥ, yathā pataṅgā agni-samīpaṃ prāpnuyuḥ. śrutarvā durdharaḥ krāthaḥ vivitsur vikaṭaḥ samaḥ niṣaṅgī kavacī pāśī tathā nandonanandakau duṣpradharṣaḥ subāhur vātavegaḥ suvarcā dhanugrāho durmado jalasandhaḥ śalaḥ saha ca—ete mahābalāḥ parākramiṇaś ca tava putrā bahubhir rathaiḥ parivṛtā bhīmasenasya samīpaṃ prāpuḥ, taṃ sarvataḥ parivārya tasthuḥ.
Sinabi ni Sañjaya: Nang matanggap ang utos ni Haring Duryodhana, ang iyong mga anak—nag-aalab sa galit—ay lumapit kay Bhīmasena na may hangaring patayin siya, gaya ng mga gamu-gamo na sumasalpok sa apoy. Sina Śrutarvā, Durdhara, Krātha, Vivitsu, Vikaṭa, Sama, Niṣaṅgī, Kavacī, Pāśī, at ang magkapatid na Nanda at Upananda; kasama pa sina Duṣpradharṣa, Subāhu, Vātavega, Suvarcā, Dhanugrāha, Durmada, Jalasandha, Śala, at Saha—ang mga makapangyarihan at matatapang mong anak, na napalilibutan ng maraming karwahe, ay nakarating kay Bhīmasena, pinaligiran siya sa lahat ng panig, at tumindig na handang sumalakay.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical danger of anger-driven obedience: when one follows an unjust command out of rage and pride, one may rush toward ruin like a moth to flame. It implicitly contrasts blind loyalty and wrath with discernment (viveka) and dharmic restraint.
Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that, on Duryodhana’s order, many of Dhritarashtra’s sons and allied warriors advance in a massed chariot formation, surround Bhima from all sides, and prepare to strike him down.
