Karṇa’s Battle Formation and the Pāṇḍava Counter-Plan
Adhyāya 31

The verse highlights the power—and moral risk—of unified action in war: when leaders combine their strength and act in coordination, they can overwhelm opposition swiftly. Ethically, it also reflects the single-minded pursuit of victory (and the targeting of a key opponent) that characterizes the late-stage escalation of the Kurukṣetra conflict.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the remaining decisive task lies with the Kaurava leadership and Karṇa. He urges the king’s side to stay close to Karṇa, destroy a section of the enemy forces together, and—using the simile of the Sun dispelling darkness with Aruṇa—press the combined assault toward killing Arjuna on the battlefield.
