Karna Reproves Shalya; Brahmin Reports on Bāhlīkas; Shalya’s Universalizing Rebuttal
The verse highlights the warrior ethos of making public resolve and staking one’s reputation on action in battle; ethically, it also shows how confidence and ambition can harden into a vow that fuels escalation, regardless of the broader dharmic ambiguity of the war.
Karna addresses Duryodhana (called ‘Bhārata’), promising that Duryodhana will witness his deeds in the coming fight and asserting that he will certainly defeat the assembled Pāṇḍavas on the battlefield.
