Śalya Appointed as Karṇa’s Sārathi; Discourse on Praise, Blame, and Beneficial Counsel (कर्णस्य शल्यसारथ्यं तथा स्तवनिन्दाविचारः)
संजय कहते हैं--राजन्! कृपाचार्यने धृष्टद्युम्मको आक्रमण करते देख युद्धभूमिमें उसी प्रकार उन्हें आगे बढ़नेसे रोका, जैसे वनमें शरभ- सिंहको रोक देता है ।।
sañjaya uvāca—rājan! kṛpācāryeṇa dhṛṣṭadyumnaṃ samākrāmantaṃ dṛṣṭvā raṇabhūmau tathāiva tasya agragamanaṃ nyavāryata, yathā vane śarabhaḥ siṃham iva nivārayet. niruddhaḥ pārṣatastena gautamena balīyasā; padāt padaṃ vicalituṃ nāśakat tatra, bhārata.
Sinabi ni Sanjaya: O Hari, nang makita ni Acharya Kripa si Dhrishtadyumna na sumusulong upang sumalakay, hinarang niya ang pag-abante nito sa larangan ng digmaan—gaya ng śarabha sa gubat na pumipigil sa leon. Dahil napigilan ng makapangyarihang Kripa na mula sa angkan ni Gautama, ang anak ni Prishata (Dhrishtadyumna) ay hindi nakasulong kahit isang hakbang man doon, O Bharata.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights that in warfare, raw aggression can be neutralized by disciplined strength and seasoned restraint; ethical force is not merely attack, but the capacity to check and control an opponent’s momentum.
Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that Dhrishtadyumna advanced to strike, but Kripacharya—described as mightier—blocked him so completely that Dhrishtadyumna could not advance even a step, likened to a śarabha restraining a lion.
