Educational Q&A

As a colophon, the verse does not teach a doctrine directly; it underscores the epic’s framing of war as morally and practically chaotic (saṅkula), and it signals that the narrative is moving toward Bhīṣma’s fall—an event loaded with dharmic complexity about duty, loyalty, and the costs of violence.

This line formally closes the chapter: it identifies the text (Mahābhārata), the larger book (Bhīṣma Parva), the relevant sub-section (Bhīṣma’s fall), and the chapter’s topic (confused fighting), indicating that the described battle episode has concluded.
