Self-Causation Counsel and the Bhīma–Dhṛṣṭadyumna Convergence
पतितै: पात्यमानैश्व विचेष्टद्धिश्व भूतले । घोरमायोधन जज्ञे तत्र तत्र जनेश्वर
patitaiḥ pātyamānaiś ca viceṣṭadbhiś ca bhūtale | ghoram āyodhanaṃ jajñe tatra tatra janeśvara ||
Wika ni Sañjaya: “O panginoon ng mga tao, habang ang mga mandirigma’y bumabagsak, ibinabagsak, at nag-aagaw-buhay na gumagapang sa lupa, isang kakila-kilabot na tanawin ng labanan ang sumiklab sa lahat ng dako—dito at doon sa buong kapatagan.”
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the grim reality and moral weight of war: when violence is unleashed, suffering spreads everywhere—fallen and dying bodies become the visible consequence of choices made by rulers and warriors.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the battlefield has become horrific: warriors are falling, being struck down, and writhing on the earth, and the dreadful combat appears in many places across the field.
