सध्वज: सह सूतेन साश्व: सयुगबन्धुर: । भीष्मको मार डालनेके लिये चलायी हुई उस गदाके आघातसे ध्वज, सारथि, घोड़े, जूआ और धुरा आदिके साथ वह सारा रथ चूर-चूर हो गया
sadhvajaḥ saha sūtena sāśvaḥ sayugabandhuraḥ | bhīṣmako māra ḍālneke liye calāyī huī us gadāke āghātase dhvaja-sārathi-ghoṛe-jūā-dhurā-ādike sātha vaha sārā ratha cūr-cūr ho gayā |
Wika ni Sanjaya: Sa hampas ng gadang inihagis upang patayin si Bhishma, ang buong karwaheng pandigma ay nadurog at nagkadurug-durog—kasama ang watawat, ang sarathi (tagapagpatakbo ng karwahe), ang mga kabayo, ang yugo, ang poste, at lahat ng kabit nito.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the destructive power unleashed when killing intent governs action in war: not only the target but also the interconnected supports—vehicle, attendants, and animals—are consumed by violence. It implicitly invites reflection on the ethical weight of martial choices even within kṣatriya-dharma.
Sañjaya reports that a mace, hurled to kill Bhīṣma, lands with such force that the entire chariot is smashed—banner, charioteer, horses, yoke, pole, and all components breaking apart.
