Arjuna uvāca: mat-karmakṛn mat-paramo mad-bhaktaḥ saṅga-varjitaḥ | nirvairaḥ sarva-bhūteṣu yaḥ sa mām eti pāṇḍava ||
The verse defines the qualities of the devotee who attains the Divine: acting as an offering, keeping the Divine as the highest goal, maintaining devotion, renouncing attachment, and cultivating non-enmity toward all beings.
In the midst of the Kurukṣetra discourse, Arjuna asks about the nature of exclusive devotion; the teaching responds by listing practical traits that mark such devotion and lead to union with the Divine.
