Karma-Saṃnyāsa–Karma-Yoga Saṃvāda
Renunciation and the Discipline of Action

Arjuna asks for clarity: when teachings appear to point in more than one direction, the seeker should request a single, definite instruction that leads to śreyas—lasting welfare rather than temporary benefit.
In the opening of the Gītā’s instruction, Arjuna feels intellectually unsettled by what he perceives as blended counsel (renunciation vs. action). He therefore presses for a clear, decisive path that he can follow toward true good.
