भीष्मस्य शरशय्या-प्राप्तिः
Bhīṣma’s Fall to the Arrow-Bed
स्कन्दशक््त्या यथा क्रौज्च: पुरा नृपतिसत्तम । नृपश्रेष्ठ छातीमें लगे हुए उस बाणसे प्रतापी भीमसेन वैसे ही सुशोभित हुए, जैसे पूर्वकालमें कार्तिकेयकी शक्तिसे आविद्ध होनेपर क्रौंच पर्वतकी शोभा हुई थी
sañjaya uvāca | skandaśaktyā yathā krauñcaḥ purā nṛpatisattama |
Wika ni Sañjaya: O pinakamainam sa mga hari! Si Bhīmasena, bagama’t tinamaan sa dibdib ng palasong iyon, ay lalo pang nagningning—gaya noong unang panahon na ang Bundok Krauncha ay sumilay nang ito’y mabutas ng sibat na śakti ni Skanda (Kārtikeya). Ipinahihiwatig ng paghahambing na ito ang katatagan ng mandirigma: kahit sugatan, hindi niya iniiwan ang tungkulin sa digmaan, kundi tinatanggap ang tama nang may di-matitinag na loob.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kshatriya-dharma and inner steadiness: a righteous warrior does not collapse in spirit when wounded, but maintains courage and purpose. The comparison to Krauncha pierced by Skanda’s spear frames suffering as something that can reveal, rather than diminish, heroic resolve.
Sanjaya describes Bhimasena after being struck in the chest by an arrow. Instead of appearing weakened, Bhima is portrayed as shining with a fierce, heroic splendor—likened to Mount Krauncha made striking in appearance when pierced by Skanda’s divine spear.
