The verse highlights the social and ethical power of śubha-kathā—an auspicious account of noble action. When righteous deeds are heard and remembered, they generate joy, reinforce confidence in dharma, and unite the community around exemplary conduct.
Yudhiṣṭhira reports that, upon hearing a remarkable and auspicious account about Arjuna (Dhanañjaya), the listeners became delighted. In the surrounding context (as reflected in the Gītā Press prose), this joy is shared by figures like Bhīmasena and others, as well as the priests officiating the sacrifice.
