Abhimanyu’s Śrāddha; Vyāsa’s Assurance of the Unborn Heir
tām apaśyann ipatitāṃ Vasudevaḥ kṣitau tadā | dṛṣṭvaiva ca papātorvyā so 'pi duḥkhena mūrcchitaḥ ||
The verse highlights the ethical and emotional aftermath of violence: even revered elders can be overwhelmed by grief, reminding the listener that war’s consequences extend beyond victory to profound human suffering and compassion for the fallen.
Vasudeva sees Subhadrā lying fallen on the earth; the shock and sorrow immediately cause him too to collapse and faint on the ground.
