Abhimanyunidhana-prakāśaḥ — Vasudeva–Kṛṣṇa–Subhadrā–Kuntī śoka-saṃvāda
Disclosure and Consolation
भीष्म: सेनापतिरभूदेकादशचमूपति: । कौरव्य: कौरवेन्द्राणां देवानामिव वासव:
bhīṣmaḥ senāpatir abhūd ekādaśa-camūpatiḥ | kauravyaḥ kauravendrāṇāṃ devānām iva vāsavaḥ ||
Wika ni Vāsudeva: “Si Bhīṣma ang naging punong kumandante, panginoon ng labing-isang pangkat ng hukbo (akṣauhiṇī). Sa mga hari ng Kuru, tumindig siya na gaya ni Vāsava (Indra) sa mga diyos—hinirang bilang pangunahing tagapagtanggol at pinuno ng hukbong Kaurava. Ipinahihiwatig ng taludtod na ang kapangyarihan sa digmaan ay ipinagkakatiwala sa pinakamarangal at pinakamarunong; at ang gayong kataasan ay may mabigat na pananagutan sa buhay at dharma ng mga pinamumunuan.”
वासुदेव उवाच
Eminence and command are not merely honors but burdens of dharma: the most respected and competent elder is placed at the head of the host, and his stature—likened to Indra’s among the gods—implies heightened accountability for protection, discipline, and righteous conduct in war.
Vāsudeva describes the Kaurava war arrangement: Bhīṣma is appointed commander-in-chief and made responsible for the vast Kaurava forces, characterized here as eleven major army divisions (akṣauhiṇīs), with his position compared to Indra’s leadership among the gods.
