Disclosure and Consolation
एवं तदभवद् युद्धमहान्यष्टादश प्रभो । यत्र ते पृथिवीपाला निहता: स्वर्गमावसन्,प्रभो! इस प्रकार अठारह दिनोंतक वह युद्ध हुआ है। उसमें जो राजा मारे गये हैं, वे स्वर्गलोकमें जा बसे हैं
evaṁ tad abhavad yuddha-mahān aṣṭādaśa prabho | yatra te pṛthivī-pālā nihatāḥ svargam āvasan, prabho ||
Wika ni Vāsudeva: “Ganyan ang nangyari, O panginoon: ang dakilang digmaan ay tumagal ng labingwalong araw. At doon, ang mga hari—mga tagapamahala ng lupa—na napatay ay nanirahan sa langit.”
वासुदेव उवाच
The verse frames the catastrophic war within a dharmic-heroic horizon: the battle is acknowledged as a fixed historical fact, and the fallen kings are presented as attaining Svarga—reflecting the traditional idea that those who die in righteous Kṣatriya combat may gain heavenly worlds.
Vāsudeva summarizes the outcome of the Kurukṣetra conflict: it lasted eighteen days, and many kings who fought there were killed; he states that these slain rulers came to dwell in heaven.
