The Wheel of Time and the Norms of the Āśramas

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that for twice-born householders, thorough mastery of authoritative dharma-teachings—especially the disciplines of injunction and prohibition—is a supreme good, yielding lasting ethical stature and enduring renown.

Vāyudeva is speaking in a didactic mode, emphasizing the value of śāstric learning and disciplined understanding as a foundation for righteous household life and for the lasting honor that follows from living by dharma.
