Yudhiṣṭhira’s Grief, Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation, and Vyāsa’s Admonition (युधिष्ठिरशोक-निवारणोपदेशः)
कर्मणा तद् विधत्स्वेह येन शुध्यति मे मन: । शत्रुदमन श्रीकृष्ण! अब जिस कर्मके द्वारा मुझे अपने इस क्रूरतापूर्ण पापसे छुटकारा मिले तथा जिससे मेरा चित्त शुद्ध हो, वही कीजिये || १३ $ ।। तमेवं वादिनं पार्थ व्यास: प्रोवाच धर्मवित्,कुन्तीनन्दन युधिष्ठिरको ऐसी बातें करते देख धर्मके तत्त्वको जाननेवाले महातेजस्वी व्यासजीने उन्हें सान्त्वना देते हुए यह शुभ एवं सार्थक वचन कहा--“तात! तुम्हारी बुद्धि अभी शुद्ध नहीं हुई है। तुम पुनः बालकोचित अविवेकके कारण मोहमें पड़ गये
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca |
karmaṇā tad vidhatsveha yena śudhyati me manaḥ |
śatrudamana śrīkṛṣṇa! adya yasmin karmaṇā mama asmin krūratāpūrṇāt pāpāt mucyeya, yena ca me cittaṃ śudhyet, tad eva kuru ||
(tam evaṃ vādinaṃ pārthaṃ vyāsaḥ provāca dharmavit |
kuntīnandana yudhiṣṭhiraṃ tathā vadantaṃ dṛṣṭvā dharmatattvavid mahātejā vyāsaḥ sāntvayitvā idaṃ śubhaṃ sārthakaṃ vacanam uvāca— “tāta! tava buddhiḥ adhunāpi na śuddhā; punar bālako citāvivekāt mohena paryavasitaḥ …”)
Sinabi ni Yudhiṣṭhira: “Dito at ngayon, itakda mo para sa akin ang gawaing magpapadalisay sa aking isip. O Śrī Kṛṣṇa, manlulupig ng mga kaaway—gawin mo ang mismong gawa na magpapalaya sa akin mula sa malupit na kasalanang ito at maglilinis sa aking puso.” Habang siya’y nagsasalita nang gayon, si Vyāsa—nakaaalam ng dharma—ay nagsalita sa anak ni Pṛthā. Nang makita niyang si Yudhiṣṭhira, anak ni Kuntī, ay nagsasalita nang ganito, ang maningning na Vyāsa, sa pag-aliw sa kanya, ay nagsabi ng mapalad at makahulugang mga salita: “Anak ko, hindi pa nalilinis ang iyong pag-unawa; muli, dahil sa pambatang kakulangan ng paghatol, ikaw ay nahulog sa pagkalito …”
युधिछिर उवाच
Moral purification is not achieved merely by outward acts; it requires right discernment (viveka) and a mind freed from delusion (moha). Vyāsa’s intervention frames Yudhiṣṭhira’s guilt as a spiritual-ethical problem needing wise counsel, not only ritual or action.
Yudhiṣṭhira, burdened by the cruelty and sin he associates with the war’s outcome, implores Kṛṣṇa to prescribe an act that will cleanse his mind. Immediately, Vyāsa appears as a dharma-authority and begins to console and correct Yudhiṣṭhira, indicating that his understanding is still clouded by delusion.
