Arjuna’s request to Krishna and the opening of the Kāśyapa–Brāhmaṇa mokṣa discourse (Āśvamedhika-parva 16)

उपपन्नं च तत्सव॑॑ श्रुतचारित्रसंयुतम्‌ । भावेनातोषयच्चैनं गुरुवृत्त्या परंतप:

upapannaṃ ca tat sarvaṃ śrutacāritrasaṃyutam | bhāvenātoṣayac cainaṃ guruvṛttyā paraṃtapaḥ ||

Nang makita niyang taglay ng pantas ang lahat ng kinakailangan—karunungang nakaugat sa banal na pakikinig at buhay na may disiplina—si Kaśyapa, ang tagasunog ng mga kaaway, ay lumapit ayon sa nararapat. Sa taos-pusong debosyon at sa asal na dapat sa isang guro, siya’y naglingkod at sa gayon ay napasaya ang natamong dakilang kaluluwang iyon.

Spiritual worth is measured by learning joined to upright conduct, and a disciple progresses through sincere inner devotion (bhāva) expressed as respectful service and proper teacher-oriented conduct (guru-vṛtti).
