Āśvamedhika-parva Adhyāya 1 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Lament by the Gaṅgā and Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel
Adharma in leadership has collective consequences: a ruler’s wrongdoing can bring ruin upon an entire lineage. Vidura’s counsel highlights the ethical duty to restrain injustice early, before it becomes irreversible harm.
Vaiśaṃpāyana recalls Vidura’s earlier prophetic warning: Duryodhana’s offenses will lead to the destruction of the Kuru family. The verse functions as a retrospective confirmation that wise counsel was given but not heeded.
