Āśramamaṇḍala-darśana and Ṛṣi-samāgama
Observation of the Hermitage Precinct and the Assembly of Sages
जनमेजयने कहा--ब्रह्मन! यदि वरदायक भगवान् व्यास मुझे भी मेरे पिताका उसी रूप
janamejaya uvāca—brahman! yadi varadāyakaḥ bhagavān vyāsaḥ mama api me pituḥ tasyaiva rūpa-veśa-avasthābhiḥ darśanaṃ kārayet, tadāhaṃ bhavatā uktāḥ sarvāḥ kathāḥ prati viśvāsaṃ kartum śaknomi. tasmin avasthāyāṃ kṛtārthaḥ san dṛḍha-niścayaṃ prāpsyāmi; tena mama atyanta-priyaṃ kāryaṃ siddhyet. adya muniśreṣṭha-vyāsa-prasādāt mama icchā api pūrṇā bhavitum arhati. sūtir uvāca—ity ukta-vacane tasmin nṛpe vyāsaḥ pratāpavān dhīmān tasmai prasādam akarot, ānayat ca parīkṣitam (yajñabhūmau).
Wika ni Janamejaya: “O Brahmin, kung ang mapagkaloob ng biyaya na si Panginoong Vyāsa ay ipagkakaloob sa akin ang pangitain ng aking ama sa gayunding anyo, kasuotan, at kalagayan, saka ko lubos na mapaniniwalaan ang lahat ng iyong isinalaysay. Sa gayong kalagayan, ako’y magiging ganap at magkakamit ng matibay na paninindigan; matutupad ang pinakamamahal kong layon. Ngayon, sa biyaya ng pinakadakilang rishi na si Vyāsa, nararapat ding maganap ang aking hangarin.” Sabi ni Sauti: Nang masabi ito ng hari, ang makapangyarihan at marunong na si Vyāsa ay nagpakita ng pabor at ipinatawag si Parīkṣit sa pook ng paghahandog.
जनमेजय उवाच
The passage highlights how conviction (dṛḍha-niścaya) often arises from direct experience (darśana) granted through the grace (prasāda) of a realized sage. It also underscores reverence for lineage and the ethical desire to ground belief in trustworthy, sanctifying encounter rather than mere hearsay.
During Janamejaya’s sacrificial setting, he requests that Vyāsa grant him a vision of his deceased father Parīkṣit in the same form and condition. Sauti reports that Vyāsa, pleased, shows favor and summons Parīkṣit to the sacrificial ground.
