Puṣkara-Śapatha Itihāsa (Agastya–Indra Dispute at the Tīrthas) | पुष्कर-शपथ-आख्यानम्
गण्डा बोली--जिस स्त्रीने मृणालकी चोरी की हो उसे सदा झूठ बोलनेका, भाई- बन्धुओंसे लड़ने और विरोध करने और शुल्क लेकर कन्यादान करनेका पाप लगे ।।
gaṇḍā bolī—yas strī mṛṇālaṃ corayitvā gṛhṇīyāt sā sadā mṛṣāvādasyāparādhaṃ labhate, bhrātṛ-bandhubhiḥ saha kalaha-virodhaṃ ca, śulka-grahaṇena kanyādānasya ca pāpam. sā svayaṃ sādhayitvā (pākaṃ kṛtvā) prāśnīyāt, dāsye jīryatu caiva hi; vikarmaṇā pramīyeta—bisa-stainyam karoti yā.
Sabi ni Gaṇḍā: “Ang babaeng nagnakaw ng mṛṇāla (tangkay ng lotus) ay nagkakamit ng kasalanan: palagiang pagsisinungaling, pakikipag-away at pagsalungat sa mga kapatid at kamag-anak, at pagpapakasal sa dalaga kapalit ng bayad. Mapipilitan siyang magluto at kumain nang mag-isa, tatanda sa pagkaalipin sa iba, at sa pamamagitan ng maling gawa ay sasapit sa isang mapaminsalang kamatayan—ganyan ang bunga sa nagnanakaw ng tangkay ng lotus.”
विश्वामित्र उवाच
Even a seemingly small act of theft is treated as a serious breach of dharma, leading to moral degradation (lying, conflict with kin) and social-spiritual downfall (servitude, ignoble end). The passage also condemns treating marriage as a transaction by taking a fee for kanyādāna.
Within Viśvāmitra’s discourse, Gaṇḍā speaks a rule-like pronouncement describing the karmic and social consequences assigned to a woman who steals lotus-stalk (mṛṇāla/bisa), listing specific resulting faults and misfortunes.
