Adhyāya 9: Pratiśruta-Dāna

The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts

अपि चोदाहरन्तीमं धर्मशास्त्रविदो जना: । अश्वानां श्यामकर्णानां सहस्रेण स मुच्यते

api codāharantīmaṁ dharmaśāstravido janāḥ | aśvānāṁ śyāmakarṇānāṁ sahasreṇa sa mucyate ||

Wika ni Bhishma: Bukod pa rito, ang mga dalubhasa sa mga kasulatan ng dharma ay nagbabanggit ng halimbawang ito: ang taong nagkasala sa paglabag sa isang banal na panata ay napapalaya sa kasalanang iyon sa pamamagitan ng pag-aalay bilang kaloob ng isang libong kabayong may maiitim na tainga. Ipinakikita ng aral na ang paglabag sa etika ay lumilikha ng utang na moral, at ang itinakdang mga gawa ng pagbibigay at pagtubos ay itinuturing na nakapaglilinis at nakapagbabalik ng katayuan sa dharma.
