Right conduct (dharma) yields a double fruit: auspicious honor in higher realms (among Indra and the lokapālas) and, in this world, good reputation and inner peace—described as being ‘śānta-pāpmā’, with sin quieted or removed.
Vasiṣṭha is concluding a merit-fruit statement: he describes the reward that accrues to a person who has followed the prescribed virtuous practice under discussion—social esteem and joy here, and elevated standing in celestial realms beyond.
