Cyavana–Kuśika Dialogue on Lineage, Conflict, and Transmission
The verse contrasts a ruler’s inward emptiness and agitation with a sage’s calm repose, implying that ethical steadiness and self-mastery create inner stability, while moral or emotional turmoil makes even familiar spaces feel alien.
The king returns and enters his own house in a mentally desolate state, and he sees the Bhṛgu-descended sage (Cyavana) lying asleep on the same bed, setting up the next development in Bhīṣma’s account.
