Mataṅga–Gardabhī Itihāsa

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that disciplined austerity (a month-long fast) combined with tīrtha-bathing and pitṛ-tarpaṇa is a dharmic act believed to yield a specific spiritual fruit: attainment of the lunar realm (Somaloka/Candraloka).

In a discourse on vows, gifts, and sacred observances, the speaker enumerates the results of particular pilgrimage-based austerities—here, bathing at Puṣkara’s Brahma-saras and in the Gaṅgā, offering ancestral libations, and maintaining a month-long fast—stating the promised heavenly destination.
