Tīrtha-vaṃśa Upadeśa: Instruction on the Fruits of Sacred Waters
चिकित्सका देवलका वृथा नियमधारिण: । सोमविक्रयिणश्वैव राजन् नाहन्ति केतनम्,नरेश्वर! चिकित्सक या वैद्य, देवालयके पुजारी, पाखण्डी और सोमरस बेचनेवाले ब्राह्मण निमन्त्रण देने योग्य नहीं हैं
cikitsakā devalakā vṛthā niyamadhāriṇaḥ | somavikrayiṇaś caiva rājan nāhanti ketanam, nareśvara ||
Wika ni Bhīṣma: “O Hari, O panginoon ng mga tao, ang mga manggagamot (vaidya), ang mga tagapaglingkod ng dambana na umaasa sa templo (devalaka), ang mga mapagkunwaring nag-aayuno o nanunumpa nang walang saysay, at ang mga nagtitinda ng Soma—hindi itinuturing na karapat-dapat anyayahan.”
भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma lays down a dharma-based norm for ritual hospitality: invitations for sacred rites should go to those of sound conduct and proper livelihood; certain professions or hypocritical religious postures are treated as disqualifying in this context.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction on dharma, Bhīṣma addresses the king and enumerates categories of people who, according to the discussed ritual-ethical standards, are not to be invited to formal religious hospitality (such as śrāddha or similar rites).
