The verse frames an exemplary teaching: even within the householder’s life, steadfast dharma and disciplined conduct can lead to extraordinary spiritual victory—symbolically described as ‘conquering Death.’
Bhishma concludes (or transitions from) an ‘unsurpassed’ illustrative tale, stating that he has explained how, in ancient times, a householder overcame Death, in response to the listener’s inquiry.
