Chapter 2: Sudarśana Upākhyāna — Atithi-Dharma and the Conquest of Mṛtyu

तामग्निश्चकमे साक्षाद्‌ राजकन्यां सुदर्शनाम्‌ । भूत्वा च ब्राह्मणो राजन्‌ वरयामास तं नृपम्‌

tām agniś cakame sākṣād rājakaṇyāṃ sudarśanām | bhūtvā ca brāhmaṇo rājan varayāmāsa taṃ nṛpam ||

Sinabi ni Bhishma: “Si Agni mismo ay nabighani sa prinsesang si Sudarśanā. O Hari, nag-anyong Brahmana siya, lumapit sa pinunong iyon, at pormal na humingi ng kamay ng dalaga sa pag-aasawa. Ipinakikita ng tagpong ito na ang pagnanasa’y nakapagpapakilos maging sa isang diyos, ngunit ang paghahangad ay inilalagay pa rin sa paraang kinikilala ng lipunan—paglapit, paghingi, at pagpayag—upang idiin ang bigat ng wastong pamamaraan sa usapin ng kasal.”
