The verse reinforces that spiritual progress is associated with seeking refuge in sacred orientations/regions (here, the North) and honoring the exemplary lives of great ṛṣis; remembering such sages functions as moral and spiritual instruction.
Bhishma continues a catalog of revered sages connected with attaining higher welfare by resorting to the northern direction, naming Ugraśravas and the Bhārgava sage Cyavana as part of that list.
