Anuśāsana-parva 17
सर्ववासी श्रियावासी उपदेशकरो5डकर: । मुनिरात्मनिरालोक: सम्भग्नश्न सहस्रद:
vāyudeva uvāca | sarvavāsī śriyāvāsī upadeśakaro 'kāraḥ | munir ātmanirālokaḥ sambhagnaḥ sahasradāḥ ||
Wika ni Vāyu-deva: “Nanahan Siya sa lahat ng nilalang bilang Ātman, at nananahan Siya kasama ni Śrī (Lakṣmī) sa anyong Viṣṇu. Siya ang tagapagkaloob ng aral—nagtuturo sa mga naghahanap ng katotohanan at nagbibigay ng payong nagliligtas. Malaya sa pagmamataas ng ‘ako ang gumagawa,’ Siya’y mapagnilay na muni, tumitingin sa loob na hiwalay sa mga pagkakabit gaya ng katawan. Siya’y wastong pinaglilingkuran at pinararangalan, at Siya rin ay tagapagkaloob ng kawanggawa hanggang sa libu-libo.”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse extols the highest guide—divine or saintly—as one who is universally present, teaches liberating truth, remains free from egoistic doership, practices inward discernment, and embodies generosity. Ethical excellence is shown as humility plus service to others through instruction and charity.
Vāyudeva is describing and praising an exalted being (implicitly Viṣṇu/Nārāyaṇa-like) through a chain of epithets. The focus is not on action but on qualities—indwelling presence, association with Śrī, capacity to instruct and uplift, egolessness, contemplative insight, being rightly honored, and great giving.
