जो सब प्रकारसे समर्थ होकर भी दूसरोंसे पूछता तथा उन्हें सम्मान देता है और जिसके मनमें कभी दुष्टता नहीं आती, वह मनुष्य निस्संदेह पण्डित कहलाता है ।।

jñāna-vijñāna-sampannān ūhāpohaviśāradān | pravaktūn pṛcchate yo 'nyān sa vai nāpadam ṛcchati ||

Sabi ni Maheshvara: “Ang taong bagaman ganap na may kakayahan ay nagtatanong pa rin sa iba, iginagalang sila, at hindi kailanman pinahihintulutang sumibol ang masamang hangarin sa kanyang isip—siya ang tunay na tinatawag na pantas. Ang taong may taglay na kaalaman at napatunayang pag-unawa, bihasa sa pagtitimbang ng mga pagpipilian, at nagtatanong sa iba’t ibang guro upang luminaw ang pag-aalinlangan, ay hindi nahuhulog sa kapahamakan. Sa kapulungan, ang tunay na matalino’y nagsasalita nang may paghatol; ngunit ang palalo’y nagsasalita nang iba—ibinubunyag ang kahinaan at kawalang-tatag.”
