गृहस्थ पुरुषको पंचमहायज्ञोंका अनुष्ठान करके अपने मनको शुद्ध बनाना चाहिये। जो गृहस्थ सदा सत्य बोलता

gṛhasthaḥ puruṣaḥ pañcamahāyajñān anuṣṭhāya svamanāṃsi śuddhīkartum arhati | yaḥ gṛhasthaḥ satyaṃ sadā vadati, paradoṣān na paśyati, dānaṃ dadāti, brāhmaṇān satkaroti, gṛhaṃ sammārjya śuciṃ karoti, abhimānaṃ tyajati, sadā saralabhāvena tiṣṭhati, snehayuktāni vacāṃsi bhāṣate, atithyabhyāgatasevāyāṃ manaḥ niveśayati, yajñaśiṣṭam annaṃ bhuṅkte, ca śāstrājñayā atithaye pādya-arghya-āsana-śayyā-dīpaṃ nivāsārthaṃ gṛhaṃ ca prayacchati—sa dhārmika iti vijñeyaḥ || prātar utthāya cācāmya bhojanenopamantrya ca | satkṛtyānuvrajed yas tu tasya dharmaḥ sanātanaḥ ||

Sinabi ni Maheśvara: “Dapat linisin ng isang maybahay ang kanyang isip sa pamamagitan ng pagsasagawa ng limang dakilang araw-araw na paghahandog. Ang tunay na maybahay ay nagsasabi ng katotohanan, hindi naghahanap ng kapintasan ng iba, nagbibigay ng kawanggawa, nagpaparangal sa mga Brahmin, pinananatiling malinis ang tahanan sa pagwawalis at pag-aayos, iniiwan ang pagmamataas, namumuhay nang tuwiran at payak, nagsasalita ng mapagmahal na salita, at iniuukol ang isip sa paglilingkod sa mga panauhin at mga bagong dating. Kumakain lamang siya ng natira matapos ang mga handog (pagkaing pinabanal ng yajña), at ayon sa utos ng śāstra, nagbibigay siya sa panauhin ng tubig na panghugas ng paa, handog ng paggalang, upuan, hihigaan, ilawan, at maging matutuluyan sa kanyang bahay. Ang gayong tao ay dapat kilalaning matuwid. At ang bumabangon nang maaga, nagsasagawa ng ācamana, nag-aanyaya sa mga Brahmin sa pagkain, nagpapakain sa tamang oras nang may paggalang, at saka nag-aahatid sa kanila nang kaunting layo—siya raw ay tumutupad sa walang hanggang dharma.”
