Umā’s Inquiry and the Manifestation of the Third Eye (उमा–प्रश्नः तृतीयनेत्रोत्पत्तिः)
केन वृत्तेन कल्याणि समाचारेण केन वा | विधूय सर्वपापानि देवलोक॑ त्वमागता,“कल्याणि! तुमने किस बर्ताव अथवा किस सदाचारके प्रभावसे समस्त पापोंका नाश करके देवलोकमें पदार्पण किया है?
bhīṣma uvāca | kena vṛttena kalyāṇi samācāreṇa kena vā | vidhūya sarvapāpāni devalokaṁ tvam āgatā ||
Wika ni Bhishma: “O mapalad na ginang, sa anong paraan ng pamumuhay, o sa anong tuntunin ng mabuting asal, mo naipagpag ang lahat ng kasalanan at narating ang daigdig ng mga diyos? Anong disiplina ng asal ang naghatid sa iyo sa langit?”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse frames heaven (devaloka) not as accidental fortune but as the fruit of disciplined conduct—vṛtta and samācāra—through which one ‘shakes off’ sin. It highlights ethical living as the means to spiritual elevation.
Bhishma addresses a virtuous woman who has reached devaloka and asks her to disclose the specific conduct or observances that enabled her to destroy all sins and attain the divine realm, setting up an instructive account of dharmic practice.
