Adhyāya 119: Vyāsa–Kīṭa-saṃvāda

अथवा मासमेकं वै सर्वमांसान्य भक्षयन् । अतीत्य सर्वदुःखानि सुखं जीवेन्निरामय:,अथवा एक महीनेतक सब प्रकारके मांसोंका त्याग करनेवाला पुरुष सम्पूर्ण दुःखोंसे पार हो सुखी एवं नीरोग जीवन व्यतीत करता है
athavā māsam ekaṃ vai sarvamāṃsāny abhakṣayan | atītya sarvaduḥkhāni sukhaṃ jīven nirāmayaḥ ||
Wika ni Bhīṣma: “O kaya naman, ang taong umiwas sa pagkain ng lahat ng uri ng karne sa loob ng isang buong buwan ay tatawid sa lahat ng dalamhati at mamumuhay nang masaya, walang karamdaman.”
भीष्म उवाच
Dietary restraint—specifically abstaining from all meat for a month—is presented as a dharmic discipline that helps one overcome suffering and supports a healthy, happy life.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma is instructing on codes of conduct and meritorious practices; here he recommends a concrete vow of abstinence (avoiding meat) and states its beneficial results.
