Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity
The verse contributes to Bhīṣma’s instruction on dāna by specifying concrete items and quantities, emphasizing that righteous giving is disciplined, deliberate, and measured—performed with clarity about what is offered.
Bhīṣma, in his didactic discourse, enumerates items—lotus-emblems, banners, large numerical quantities, and bear-skins—within a larger catalogue of gifts/offerings, illustrating the material forms through which merit and social duty are pursued.
