पक्षे पक्षे गते यस्तु भक्तमश्नाति भारत | गवाढ्यो बहुपुत्रश्न बहुभार्य: स जायते,भरतनन्दन! जो पंद्रह-पंद्रह दिनपयर भोजन करता है, वह गोधनसे सम्पन्न और बहुत-से पुत्र तथा स्त्रियोंसे युक्त होता है
pakṣe pakṣe gate yas tu bhaktam aśnāti bhārata | gavāḍhyo bahuputraś ca bahubhāryaḥ sa jāyate ||
Wika ni Aṅgiras: “O Bhārata, ang sinumang kumain lamang nang minsan sa bawat kalahating buwan (pagkaraan ng labinlimang araw) ay muling isisilang na may saganang yaman ng mga baka, maraming anak na lalaki, at maraming asawa.”
अंगियरा उवाच
The verse teaches that rigorous restraint in eating—taking food only once per fortnight—is a form of tapas whose karmic fruit is described as prosperity (especially cattle), continuity of lineage (many sons), and household abundance (many wives) in a future birth.
In Anuśāsana Parva’s didactic setting, the sage Aṅgiras addresses “Bhārata” and enumerates the specific rewards (phala) associated with a particular austerity/vow concerning meal frequency.
