King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
स मातरमनुज्ञाप्य तपस्येव मनो दधे | स्मृतो<5हं दर्शयिष्यामि कृत्येष्विति च सोडब्रवीत्
sa mātaram anujñāpya tapasy eva mano dadhe | smṛto 'haṃ darśayiṣyāmi kṛtyeṣv iti ca so 'bravīt ||
Nang makuha ang pahintulot ng kanyang ina, itinuon niya ang isip nang lubos sa tapas—ang mahigpit na pag-aayuno at pagninilay. Sinabi rin niya sa kanya: “Kapag may pangangailangan, alalahanin mo ako; tiyak na magpapakita ako sa iyo.” Kaya, matapos magpaalam sa ina, si Vyāsa ay naglaan ng sarili sa tapas.
