शौनक उवाच
The verse highlights the idea of rightful eminence: extraordinary capability and achievement lead to recognized sovereignty (here, Garuḍa’s elevation among birds). It also frames greatness as something to be heard and learned from—heroic deeds become moral and cultural exemplars through narration.
Śaunaka announces that Garuḍa has been ritually anointed as the Indra (chief) of birds and invites the listener (addressed as Bhṛgunandana) to hear the account of Garuḍa’s great exploit that follows.
