Ādi-parva Adhyāya 3 — Janamejaya’s Rite, Dhaumya’s Parīkṣā, and Uttanka’s Kuṇḍala Quest (सर्पसत्रप्रस्तावना–गुरुपरीक्षा–उत्तङ्कोपाख्यान)
स एवमुक्तः प्रत्युवाच नानृतमूचतुर्भगवन्ती न त्वहमेतमपूपमुपयोक्तुमुत्सहे गुरवेडनिवेद्येति,उनके ऐसा कहनेपर उपमन्यु बोला--'भगवन्! आपने ठीक कहा है, तथापि मैं गुरुजीको निवेदन किये बिना इस पूएको अपने उपयोगमें नहीं ला सकता”
sa evam uktaḥ pratyuvāca—nānṛtam ūcatuḥ bhagavantī; na tv aham etam apūpam upayoktum utsahe gurave ’nivedya iti.
Nang masabihan nang gayon, sumagot si Upamanyu: “Mga kagalang-galang, hindi kayo nagsasalita ng kasinungalingan. Ngunit hindi ako mangangahas kainin ang matamis na keyk na ito nang hindi muna ipinapaalam sa aking guro.”
