Garuḍa’s Breach of the Amṛta-Guard and Boons with Viṣṇu; Encounter with Indra (Ādi-parva, Adhyāya 29)

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that righteous people discourage the partition of brothers, because separation weakens the binding force of elder-and-śāstra-based discipline and breeds mutual suspicion, undermining dharma and harmony.

Kaśyapa is giving counsel framed as ethical instruction: he explains why the good do not approve of brothers dividing—because once separated, they tend to slip from shared guidance and begin distrusting each other.
