Garuḍa’s Breach of the Amṛta-Guard and Boons with Viṣṇu; Encounter with Indra (Ādi-parva, Adhyāya 29)
भ्राता तस्यानुजश्नासीत् सुप्रतीको महातपा: । स नेच्छति धनं भ्राता सहैकस्थं महामुनि:,पूर्वकालमें विभावसु नामसे प्रसिद्ध एक महर्षि थे। वे स्वभावके बड़े क्रोधी थे। उनके छोटे भाईका नाम था सुप्रतीक। वे भी बड़े तपस्वी थे। महामुनि सुप्रतीक अपने धनको बड़े भाईके साथ एक जगह नहीं रखना चाहते थे
bhrātā tasyānujas tv āsīt supratīko mahātapāḥ | sa necchati dhanaṃ bhrātā sahaikasthe mahāmuniḥ ||
Wika ni Kāśyapa: “Ang pantas na iyon ay may nakababatang kapatid na si Supratīka, isang dakilang asceta. Ngunit ang dakilang muni ay hindi nagnanais na ang kanyang yaman ay manatiling magkakasama sa iisang lugar kasama ng kanyang nakatatandang kapatid.”
कश्यप उवाच
Even within close family bonds, prudence in handling wealth can be a form of dharma: separating property may prevent jealousy, quarrels, and moral decline, thereby protecting harmony.
Kaśyapa introduces Supratīka, the younger brother of an earlier-mentioned sage, and notes that Supratīka—though an ascetic—does not want his wealth kept jointly with his elder brother.
