Educational Q&A

A voluntarily accepted rule (samaya) safeguards harmony and dignity within the household; if it is breached—even through momentary confusion—one must accept a proportionate, purifying consequence, here forest-dwelling with brahmacarya.

Arjuna states the Pandavas’ mutual pact regarding access to Draupadī: if one brother intrudes while another is with her, the intruder must undertake a twelve-year forest exile observing celibacy.
