Nārada’s Account
Bhīṣma emphasizes rajadharma: a ruler’s duty of protection must be even-handed. Safeguarding life and security should not be restricted to one faction; it must extend to Duryodhana, the Kurus, and other rulers alike.
Bhīṣma is speaking in counsel, framing the obligation of protection as universal within the political and familial sphere. He argues that the same standard applied to one side (or to oneself and the king) must also be applied to Duryodhana and the rest of the Kurus.
