The verse highlights disciplined conduct and truthful, restrained speech within family life: the brothers follow the established custom of reporting their ‘bhikṣā’ to their mother, showing obedience and household order. This ordinary ethical habit becomes pivotal, illustrating how dharma in small acts can shape major outcomes.
Bhīma and Arjuna return from the potter’s house after winning/obtaining Draupadī and, pleased, they inform their mother Kuntī by saying they have brought ‘alms’—a conventional phrase that sets up Kuntī’s consequential instruction in the next development of the story.
