Draupadī’s Arrival, Kuntī’s Unintended Utterance, and the Decision for Fraternal Unity
ते समाशंसिरे लब्धां श्रियं राज्यं च पाण्डवा: । ब्राह्मणं तै पुरस्कृत्य पाज्चालीं च स्वयंवरे,पाण्डवोंने उन ब्राह्मणदेवताको पुरोहित बनाकर यह भलीभाँति विश्वास कर लिया कि “हमें अपना राज्य और धन अब मिले हुएके ही समान है।” साथ ही उन्हें यह भी भरोसा हो गया कि 'स्वयंवरमें द्रौपदी हमें मिल जायगी”
te samāśaṃsire labdhāṃ śriyaṃ rājyaṃ ca pāṇḍavāḥ | brāhmaṇaṃ taiḥ puraskṛtya pāñcālīṃ ca svayaṃvare ||
Sinabi ni Vaiśaṃpāyana: Nagkaroon muli ng lakas ng loob ang mga Pāṇḍava, na kumbinsidong ang kasaganaan at ang kanilang nararapat na kaharian ay para bang naipanalo na. Inilagay nila sa unahan ang isang brāhmaṇa bilang iginagalang na gabay, at natiyak din nilang sa svayaṃvara ay makakamtan nila si Pāñcālī (Draupadī).
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights confident striving aligned with dharma: the Pāṇḍavas maintain hope for rightful sovereignty and a dharmic alliance, while honoring a brāhmaṇa as a guiding, socially sanctioned presence—suggesting that ambition should be pursued with restraint, propriety, and respect for moral order.
After their hardships, the Pāṇḍavas become confident that fortune is turning in their favor. They proceed toward the svayaṃvara with a brāhmaṇa placed at the forefront (as guide/representative), and they believe Draupadī (Pāñcālī) will be won by them there.
