Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Mantra is not merely spoken but ‘seen’ (dṛṣṭa) through purity and longing for realization; invocation aligns the practitioner with tejas (splendour) and direct insight.

Vedantic Theme: Śabda as pramāṇa; mantra as revealed knowledge; tejas as inner illumination leading toward aparokṣa-anubhava (direct realization).

Application: Treat recitation as contemplative revelation: learn correct svara/intonation where applicable; invoke with intention (‘tejo ’si’), then pause for inner seeing rather than mechanical repetition.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: ritual recitation space (yajus-pāṭha; avāhana context)

Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.213 (mantra-vidhi and Gayatri upasana context)

FAQs

This verse presents ‘tejo ’si’ as a prescribed Yajus-formula used during invocation, emphasizing tejas (spiritual radiance) as the invoked power and a means toward higher perception.

It states that Devas seeking ‘dṛṣṭi-darśana’ perceived this Yajus in ancient times, implying that correct ritual procedure and mantra-recitation support direct realization.

Follow authentic procedure (vidhi) when using sacred recitations, and cultivate clarity and discipline—since the verse links correct practice with inner illumination (tejas) and insight.
