Treatment of Nāḍī-vraṇa, Bhagandara, Upadaṃśa, Fractures, Kuṣṭha/Śvitra, Āmlapitta, ENT–Eye Disorders, and Bleeding Conditions
Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Compassionate, orderly treatment of injury as a duty of care.
Vedantic Theme: Sevā (service) and ahiṃsā as practical dharma; body as an instrument for puruṣārtha.
Application: Apply first-aid sequence: assess fracture, cool sprinkling, then warm poultice, then firm bandaging with clean supportive material.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.171 (medical/vaidya section): sequential management of bhagna (fracture) and bandhana (splinting/bandaging)
Kuśa is treated as ritually pure and protective; here it is prescribed as part of the binding, combining practical bandaging with a dharmic notion of purity and auspiciousness.
This verse is not about the soul’s journey; it belongs to Ācāra-oriented instruction, showing how dharma includes proper care of the body through disciplined, traditional treatment.
Use it as a historical reference for traditional first-aid concepts (cooling, then supportive dressing), while seeking modern medical care for fractures.
