निदानं सुश्रुत ! मया आत्रेयोक्तं समीरितम् / सर्वरोगविवेकाय नराद्यायुः प्रवृद्धये

nidānaṃ suśruta ! mayā ātreyoktaṃ samīritam / sarvarogavivekāya narādyāyuḥ pravṛddhaye

O Suśruta! Ipinaliwanag ko ang nidāna—ang sanhi at pag-unawa sa pinagmulan ng karamdaman—ayon sa itinuro ni Ātreya, upang malinaw na makilala ang lahat ng sakit at upang mapalago ang haba ng buhay ng tao at ng iba pang nilalang.
