Diti’s Untimely Desire and the Birth-Cause of the Asura Line
Prelude to Hiranyākṣa–Varāha
श्रद्दधानाय भक्ताय ब्रूहि तज्जन्मविस्तरम् । ऋषे न तृप्यति मन: परं कौतूहलं हि मे ॥ ४ ॥
śraddadhānāya bhaktāya brūhi taj-janma-vistaram ṛṣe na tṛpyati manaḥ paraṁ kautūhalaṁ hi me
Isalaysay nang mas malawak ang paglitaw na iyon para sa debotong may pananampalataya. O rishi, punô ng matinding pag-uusisa ang aking isip; kaya hindi ako nasisiyahan sa pakikinig lamang.
One who is actually faithful and inquisitive is qualified to hear the transcendental pastimes of the appearance and disappearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Vidura was a suitable candidate to receive such transcendental messages.
This verse highlights that sacred narration should be received by a faithful devotee, and that sincere eagerness to hear (kautūhala) is a natural quality that draws out detailed spiritual instruction.
In their dialogue, Maitreya acknowledges Vidura’s devotion and faith and invites the unfolding of the detailed birth narrative, indicating that Vidura is a qualified listener for such profound topics.
