अन्योन्यंप्रममन्थुस्तेविविशुर्नगरंभयात् ।पृष्ठतस्तेतुसम्मूढाःप्रेक्षमाणामुहुर्मुहुः ।।6.56.34।।
anyonyam pramamanthus te viviśur nagaraṃ bhayāt |
pṛṣṭhatas te tu sammūḍhāḥ prekṣamāṇā muhur muhuḥ ||6.56.34||
ด้วยความกลัวพวกเขาเบียดเสียดกระแทกกันเองขณะเข้าเมือง และด้วยความมึนงงก็หันกลับไปมองด้านหลังซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่า
Again, and again looking back in fear, covertly, bewildered, crushing one another, they went into the Lanka city.
Fear-driven action leads to harm even among one’s own side (they crush each other). The Ramayana’s ethical lens suggests that adharma produces social disintegration, whereas dharma supports order and mutual protection.
The fleeing rakshasas pour into the city in confusion, repeatedly glancing back as they retreat.
Negatively emphasized is the loss of self-control; implicitly praised is the steadiness that comes from righteousness and truth-aligned purpose.
